Water Baby!
Today was Maddi's fourth swim lesson! We moved on to working on submerging them underwater! I have been dreading and anticipating this part for awhile. Their goal is to get them to submerge for 5-6 seconds by the end of the semester which just seems impossible to me at this age. But I assume they know what they are doing and I trust them. Especially with a couple of babies in our class who are just 7 or 8 months old! We just started with submerging them for about 1-2 seconds. Every class we do an exercise where we pass the babies to the instructor and she passes them back. This time when she passed them back she put them underwater. Maddi was quite surprised by this! She acted like she wanted to get upset but the instructor is really good and started praising her immediately and giving her a high five and Maddi started smiling. We did that a lot during the lesson and she got kind of used to it. A couple times she opened her mouth right before she went under and got a mouth full of water which she didn't like. So, hopefully she'll figure out quickly not to do that. But overall I was so proud of her! She never cried or fussed once with being dunked! I'm still skeptical about her doing that for 5-6 seconds...but we shall see!
